You are more than the thing that brought you to therapy

You have a history, relationships, habits, contradictions, strengths, and ways of getting through the day. I want to understand how all of those pieces fit together for you.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked with teenagers as a high school librarian. I spent years witnessing the lives of students and building positive relationships with them in small moments. A conversation between classes. A familiar face in the library. The experience of being noticed by someone who was genuinely paying attention. Those moments eventually led me to a career change. They also shaped what I believe about therapy.

I am an associate professional clinical counselor (APCC) (APCC#19363) working under supervision of Christina Dixon CA License #LCSW87870  |  TX License 59148
CGP Certification 75037

How I got here:

We grow and heal through connection. Sometimes that happens naturally. Sometimes we have to learn how to create those connections by practicing how to do it on purpose.

about therapy

I understand the importance of knowing how to work with depression, anxiety, trauma, and the other language we use to describe what people experience. I also know that two people with the same diagnosis can have completely different lives. My job is not to explain you to yourself or tell you what to do. It is to listen, ask questions, notice what keeps happening, and help you say things out loud.

I believe my clients know how to solve what is bothering them. That does not mean the answer is obvious or that finding it is easy. Sometimes we need another person to help us hear what we already know. Life is hard. We all need a witness.

What I believe about therapy

therapy in california

I am a therapist. I also have an art practice that I developed in my thirties. I like learning and plan to do it for my whole life. I value structured activities with friends and community, whether that means going to a group exercise class or making dinner at a friend’s house. I'm often described as brave, direct, and (okay, fine) funny. My hope is to carry those qualities over to our sessions. Mostly, I want you to know that I like people. I like my clients. And I am interested in you.

About me, the person

You do not need to have everything figured out before you contact me. You only need enough of a feeling that it might help to say some of it out loud.
